The Tanakas (B) - Round 14

Hey, peoples of the internets! So I've been pretty absentee lately, and that's because I recently started my master's degree at University of Maryland. Not only am I working full-time and doing a full-time course load (40 work hours + 9 credit hours), I have to commute 160 miles round trip each day I drive to campus. And on top of that, I've caught the old familiar demon, bronchitis, again. So since I'm hacking up a lung, already woke up at 8 to read a twenty page long hella boring theory of information paper and now feel like playing sims instead of blogging them while enjoying my nice hot mug of tea... you get a slackery update. Enjoy this slideshow, and sorry for the cop-out entry.

I recommend pausing this and clicking through the images since Photobucket's slideshows go so damn fast.

The Tanakas (B) - Round 13

Starring:

Stella Terrano, Elder Knowledge Sim, 2nd LTW Become Mad Scientist

Mariko Tanaka, Elder Popularity Sim, 2nd LTW Become The Law

~*~*~*~*~

Last round at the Tanaka house, Mari and Stella met and became good friends with Angelica Eich (Silvervale). They both worked in Stella's electronics shop, and they both earned some new talent badges: Stella, a gold restocking badge, and Mariko, a gold sales badge. After busting their humps in the store, Stella finally decided to promote LeShawn to manager so she and Mari could enjoy their retirement instead of working through it. This round should be the round that their son Cosmo comes home, but since he decided to stick around another two years in uni to graduate with his girlfriend, Sadie Chin, he will be back next round, and Mari and Stella get one more season alone together in the house.

Mari and Stella weren't complaining about their alone time. They missed their son, sure, but they were so in love that it little mattered what else happened. They cherished all of their time together.

It seemed like they'd been together for a lifetime, and when they looked at the photo hanging on their bedroom wall, they realized they really had. Since they were young adults, the two had been inseparable, and here they were in their golden years, still as in love as ever.

They weren't completely insulated, however. They still met tons of people walking by their house while they were outside gardening. It seemed a day never went by that they didn't spot someone taking a walk from their perches on the front porch and invite them in for coffee. It was a habit they were developing together, and one they both enjoyed.

They even greeted the four-legged friends who passed by their place, including the spunky little pup, Sheba.

Stella took a special interest in the tiny dog, who charmed her by trying to carry sticks that weighed more than she did. The dog had a certain chutzpah about her that Stella found charming.

When Stella discovered that Sheba had no tags and no home, she decided on the spot to adopt the little dog and welcome her into their home. It was the beginning of a world of work for Stella, though she didn't know it yet.

She quickly learned that Sheba was indeed an independent little pup with loads of energy, and smart too. Unfortunately, she was also quite aggressive and a little messy to boot. Plus, she must have been a street god her whole life because she had absolutely NO house manners. She had the reverse of manners, in fact.

If it wasn't puddles on the floor, it was something else...

...like destroying the furniture in the house. Poor Stella felt like she was running ragged chasing Sheba around the house and trying to correct her bad behaviors.

One night, Stella had had enough and locked Sheba into Cosmo's old room with her food, a chew toy, and a new pet bed. She had to get a break.

She didn't know whether it was getting older or her simple science-y curiosity that had her thinking of ghosts lately, but she knew that if she were ever going to see one, Wildflower Cemetery was the place. Sadly, all she got to do was talk to a few other thrill-seekers...no ghosts showed their faces that night. When she got home and let Sheba out, nothing had changed. I challenge you to imagine funny music during the next photo montage...it's pretty much what I do for my own amusement. Perhaps some circus music or a little calliope. Little comment is necessary.

And finally:

It was a fun fall.

[[Author's Notes: Okay, the best thing I have ever done is decide to let Stella adopt this dog!! She is so hilariously bad that all Stella did was follow the pup around and scold her for things the whole round. Had me totally cracking up. Maybe by the time Cosmo and Sadie get back next round, she'll actually have a few good manners! Mariko was here the whole time, but she was puttering around being retired, so she didn't get much air time. Stick around for Kimi and Takeru!]]

The Tanakas (B) - Round 12

Starring:

Mariko Tanaka, Elder Popularity Sim, 2nd LTW Become The Law

Stella Terrano, Elder Knowledge Sim, 2nd LTW Become Mad Scientist

~*~*~*~*~

Last round at the Tanaka house, Stella and Mariko really focused on spending time building up the business, Stellas Servos and Stuff. Mariko earned her gold robotics badge so that she could help craft products for the store and even came with Stella to help sell and restock the store, earning her a few new badges. This round, perhaps their focus will change a bit...

The best thing about life in the Tanaka house was that Stella and Mariko were still just as in love with each other as elders as they had been as young adults. When they weren't down at the store, they still had "date nights" at the house, their romance never dwindling.

Some of the dates didn't turn out so well, but it wasn't for lack of love or interest...after all, they couldn't exactly control the weather.

Mariko, ever the popularity sim at heart, also enjoyed sitting on the porch, people-watching. One day, she noticed a new face in Rosebud. After introducing herself, Mari discovered it to be Angelica Eich, visiting from the neighboring town of Silvervale. The two hit it off immediately.

Mari quickly invited the pretty new visitor in to meet Stella, and all of them had a great time dancing to a new song Angelica insisted they just HAD to hear.

Stella eventually turned in, smiling as Angelica and Mariko continued their discussion late into the night over a rousing game of chess. Mari might have gotten older, but her love for new friends and her charismatic manner never changed.

By the time Angelica finally left, it was the next morning, and since Mari seemed so keen on meeting new people, Angelica suggested a new friend that she was positive Mariko would just love. It turned out to be a great day for Mari!

But Mari and Stella couldn't be all play and no work...not with the store needing to be opened and taken care of. Mariko continued to go with Stella, helping do whatever needed to be done, from restocking to selling to running the register to spelling LeShawn when she tired of making new product for the shelves.

Stella knew that Mari's social nature would aid her in selling, and she was pleased as Mariko quickly caught on to the proper and most effective ways to make sales, laughing to herself when Mariko succeeded in selling her own little brother something he absolutely didn't need.

Stella was just delighted that Brad Devivio seemed so interested in the servo she'd crafted. One servo sale meant a very large profit for the business.

Stella continued in her habit of overseeing everything. She added a gold talent badge in restocking to her already full wall of badges in the other business functions.

It wasn't until Mariko earned her gold sales talent badge that Stella finally seemed to realize how much time they were spending at Stellas Servos. She made a prompt decision.

She promoted LeShawn to manager, tasking her with making sure the business ran smoothly even if Stella wasn't around to keep everyone on task and all the customers happy.

And just to be sure, she gave her a nice fat raise as well, ensuring the woman's enthusiasm and loyalty to the business.

With that, Stella and Mari headed home, light-hearted. No more days spent in the basement crafting robotics or days spent glad-handing the residents of Rosebud. Now they could enjoy the simple pleasures of their retirement years: like cooking up a pot of jambalaya and watching a movie on the couch together. Both agreed they deserved it.

[[Author's Notes: These two are so adorable. I'm going to be devastated when they finally die. Thanks to Liz, I discovered that a business can make money WITHOUT eating up 95% of my sims' lives, so Stella happily makes one phone call a day to the business now and doesn't live a life of solid robot building and energizer abuse, consecutively. Next round, Cosmo will rejoin them, which should be very fun. Love these elder ladies! Lots of bloopers for you this round.

Bloopers:
Mari, what are you doing skulking in the shadows at the back of the shop? What's that? Eating ramen? Oh... yes... I, uh, guess that's the logical place to do it. O.o // Okay, now just HOW did you get yourself into that mess? // Yes, I realize there's a wall there. What you don't seem to realize is that it has ALWAYS been there, yet you still managed to trap yourself in the foundation. Sigh. Sims. // Um, no. // No again. // Still no. ]]

The Clearys (B) - Round 11

Starring:

Tara Cleary, Adult Knowledge Sim, 2nd LTW Become Chief of Staff

~*~*~*~*~

Last round at the Cleary house, Tara and Aki finally parted ways in a somewhat ugly breakup, and Tara moved into a new Mediterranean grotto across the street from her familial home. Aki didn't handle this breakup well, and he spent most of the round kicking over her trashcan and subsequently getting shocked by her SentryBot. It took Tara a bit of adjustment to get used to living alone, but within short order, she found herself happier and more content than she'd been in years. Let's see how she does this round.

The first thing Tara decided was that she wanted a new career. Education had been good to her, but she was ready for a change, and ready to make more of a difference in the world. She thought she could do that in the medical field.

Her off time was still a delight to her. Without the home business and the awkward living situation with Aki, she could do whatever she wanted whenever she wanted without having to consider anyone else's input. It was an amazing revelation for her.

And she loved her new job. It fit her like an old pair of jeans, though she had to admit something about her new life still seemed a little bit off. It was like she had filled most of the holes in her heart after parting with Aki, but there were still a few left empty. She discussed it with a co-worker she brought home one day from work, Demi Bear.

Demi was a surprisingly good listener, and Tara found her to be strangely pretty with her unusual eyes that seemed to peer right through a person's soul.

Even more surprising was when Demi admitted that she thought Tara was beautiful as well. More than beautiful, in fact...appealing.

How it happened, Tara wasn't quite sure. Whether it was the loneliness she'd felt since moving into a house by herself or her sensation that something was missing in her life or maybe just the unusual eyes, Tara found herself in bed with her strange, almost otherwordly co-worker, with a woman for the first time in her life.

When she went to work the next day, she found that Demi had done more than simply give her a pleasurable (though confusing) evening. Her boss was ready with a promotion the moment she walked in the door.

That night, Tara found she was feeling a bit ill, and she chalked it up to the fact that her life had been such a tumult lately. Everyone knew that anxiety could cause this sort of nausea. Still, a nagging thought lingered in the back of her head which she pushed away.

Tara continued to go to work as usual, making tough decisions that helped distract her from unwanted thoughts.

Her determined focus paid off for her, and she even managed to handle a few extra matters at work...

Later that week, Tara came home with a huge final promotion to the head of her career. She was now Chief of Staff at the hospital, and more was changing than that. She brought home her younger half-brother Neal with her the day she was promoted.

"Neal," she began, at first hesitant, "I have some amazing, wonderful news to share with you." She slowly explained what had happened with Demi and the results of the blood test she'd had while at work. But that's impossible! Tara explained that she'd thought so too until the blood test proved her wrong. "I'm having a baby!" she exclaimed excitedly.

As the weeks went by, her body changed. Her belly began growing with the little miracle life inside. As a doctor, she couldn't help but be fascinated by the whole process, in between dashes to the toilet to throw up.

She took some well-deserved time off from work to take it easy and give the baby a chance to grow, keeping healthy by cooking better meals and swimming for exercise.

Her belly continued to expand a shocking amount, and Tara was again amazed at the power of the human body.

Soon her amazement turned to fear and pain, but it was simply normal, healthy labor anxiety. After a few hours of labor, the miracle was complete.

As Tara cradled her new baby to her shoulder, she could see the unusual eyes that had come from Demi shining up at her from her new baby girl.

With the birth of Melody, Tara felt that she finally figured out how to fill the remaining holes she'd felt in her life.

[[Author's Notes: Okay, so this was a totally spur of the moment decision for me, but I realized that my Cleary population is pretty small in this hood, and when I saw Demi's eyes, I knew I wanted to breed them into the neighborhood. They're totally weird, but I kind of love them. Call this a bit of CC fever. (MUST. USE. JESSI EYES.) You'll notice Melody is way lighter than either of her mothers, and she's one of the victims of my pre-edited Pooklet skintone download. I eliminated a lot of the lighter skintones, but I'm not sure if this will affect Melody when I re-enter the lot. Guess we'll find out. Anyway, yay for babies! Yay especially for Cleary babies! I only wish she had the red hair, but I was pretty certain she wouldn't with brown-hair-dominant Demi in the mix. Love this house especially much now! Only one blooper for you.

Blooper:
WHAT!? NOOOEEESSS, you crazy hormonal preggers! ]]
