Last time at the Cleary house, Tara was getting used to having a brand new baby! She was also getting used to a taste of what it was like to be a single mom. Sometimes, she wasn't so hot at it. But for the most part, she was an attentive new mom, and Melody was a happy little toddler who aged into an equally happy little girl. Let's see how they get on this round.

Now that Melody was a child, Tara had some time alone in the house during the days. She missed her little girl for sure, but she also enjoyed the freedom to do things SHE wanted to do again, after years of being the sole caretaker for her daughter. Tara found that all she wanted to do was spend time outside, whether it be in the garden or at the little fishpond she had installed.

She was still ready to give Melody a great big cheer for an A+ report card, though. Melody came first and would probably resent all the attention she got from her mother once she was a teenager.

Already, Tara's little girl was getting older and more independent. When Melody suggested that she might like to go to the same private school Tara had attended as a child, Tara set up a meeting with the headmaster, and Melody greeted him and enthusiastically gave him a tour of their home.

Between Melody's charming and outgoing personality, her bright mind, and Tara's amazing cooking (and perhaps her amazing midriff for a middle-aged woman), Melody was accepted with flying colors.

Tara continued her new-found love of fishing, sometimes combining it with mother-daughter time as Melody played in the grass, jump roping or catching bugs.

Apparently, there were payoffs to becoming a master angler that Tara never knew about. One day, she caught a strange golden fish, and when she took it to the pet store, they informed her that it was a rare golden trout. It was worth a lot of money as a delicacy if she sold it, but Tara decided to have her prize mounted. Maybe she would catch another someday, but if she didn't, she had that trophy to be proud of.

Tara's middle-aged midriff was about to become an old midriff, so it was a good thing she got use of that formal wear while she could. Later that season, she stood in front of her birthday cake, which was lit up like a bonfire.

Though Tara didn't like the idea of getting older while her daughter was still so young, she knew she couldn't help it, so she might as well embrace it.

And she had to admit...she thought she made a pretty darn adorable gray-haired old lady. :)

[[Author's Notes: Soooo, Tara. Cutest elder ever, mmkay? Also, that golden fish? I'd never seen it before, and you can sell it for way more than normal fish. After two years, I'm still discovering little nuances of this game that I was never aware existed. So fun. :) Next round, Melody ages into a teen, and I can't wait to see how she turns out, squee! But for now, on to Sal, Inari, and River!]]

Last round at Tara's bachelorette pad, she worked to achieve a sense of normalcy in her new home after her split with Aki. She got a job in the medical field and achieved her second lifetime goal of becoming a chief of staff. One day, she brought home a co-worker, the pretty Demi Bear, and one thing led to another. Shockingly for Tara, her dalliance with Demi led to a pregnancy, and Tara gave birth to a beautiful little girl whom she named Melody, and who had Demi's etherial golden eyes. Let's see how single-mom Tara does this round.

Tara found that her life felt more full and complete than it ever had. She and Melody had a peaceful life together, Tara watching over her little girl while taking care of the house and starting what she thought could be a new career for her: writing novels.

She stayed in contact with Demi, not because she wanted to be with her for the rest of her life, but more because there would always be a warm place in her heart for the mother of her child. She did love Demi in a certain way...just not enough to ever make the woman a full part of her life.

The days went by peacefully, with Melody napping in her crib and Tara tapping away at her keyboard, forming the basis of her first novel.

She and Melody had a very peaceful life. Tara found that she was happier than she'd ever been simply feeding and bathing her little girl. All those unsatisfying years with Aki, apparently, all she'd needed was a little one to love and take care of. She wasn't too bothered by the fact that she was alone in the love department, as long as she had Melody.

The more she spent time at home taking care of her little girl and enjoying the beautiful house she'd had constructed, the more she realized that what she wanted most was to stay home.

She quit her job without any regrets, looking forward to making an income writing her novels and always being home for her little girl.

Her little girl wouldn't be quite so tiny forever, though, and Tara knew this. She invited Demi over for Melody's first birthday celebration, a bittersweet time.

Melody grew up into a beautiful toddler, even if her mother Demi's eyes gave her an older look that was almost disturbing in a small child.

And she couldn't have been a sweeter little girl, really. Kind and active, though a bit shy and serious, Melody was a joy of a little girl.

And Tara had to admit that even with the unusual eyes, Melody, with the right hairstyle, was just a chipper, adorable little toddler like any other.

Skill time was when Tara appreciated most her decision to quit her job and take on a more homebound lifestyle. It would have been impossible, as a single mom, to teach Melody all the things she needed to know without having so much free time.

Melody was bright, though, and Tara found that she hardly missed adult company when she had time to teach her daughter life skills and occasionally sit down and just read her a good book.

When it came time for Melody to become a child, Tara quickly realized that the tiny bachelorette pad she'd designed for only one wouldn't be sufficient. She commissioned an addition to be added to the second floor of her house. It provided Tara with a new office and Melody with a new room that would give her plenty of space and privacy.

Of course, it didn't mean that Melody wasn't fully and wholeheartedly attached to her mom. She and Tara were practically inseperable, and Melody loved it. She knew nothing else since the day she'd been born, and she never resented her mother for being around all the time.

The older she got, the more startling her looks became, and Tara suspected her little daughter would become quite the heartbreaker, all the more potent the older she got.

Tara's first novel didn't exactly sell for a billion simoleons, but she knew that she would only get better the longer she wrote. Plus, her contract included two more books, and she not only needed to but also WANTED to fulfill this contract.

Melody's first day of school was a painful one for Tara, despite how proud she was of her bright little girl. At least Tara wouldn't have to worry about Melody thriving in the new environment: her daughter was self-confident and self-reliant if shy.

Tara and Melody had a very basic understanding of one another, too, which gave Tara a bit of an easier time raising her daughter. Their deep familiarity with one another allowed Tara to know exactly what Melody needed...

...and to balance those wants with the essential needs of a young girl growing up in Rosebud. Their existence might have seemed boring to some, but it was the ultimate comfort to mother and daughter alike.

[[Author's Notes: These two know each other so well, it's not even funny. They are perfectly happy being in their own little universe bubble with one another, which is a relief since I didn't really want to move in a lover for Tara. It didn't work the last time, so this time, I figured mom and daughter would be happy together. I'm relieved they seem to share my view. They might be a little boring, but I still love them. This house makes my heart warm and my lips smile. :)

Bloopers:
This is not the way you raise a child, Mom. I'm only 6 months old, and I know this. ]]

The Clearys (B) - Round 10

PREFACE

Tara Cleary had a problem. She had a big problem. A problem that drove her to drink, in fact. It was occurring to her, slowly and against her will, that she was no longer in love with her long-time mate, Aki Tanaka. How could this happen? They'd been together since high school, and she was middle-aged now! He'd brought her back from the dead, for god's sake. They'd built a home and a business together. But no matter how many times she told herself these things, she couldn't deny that there was simply no spark anymore. More than that, there wasn't even a very good friendship. They lived in separate spheres in the same house, moving independently and hardly talking more than a cursory hello and goodbye. Something had to be done, she finally knew. It broke her heart.

Though she knew it was wrong, one day while Aki was at work, she called a local "magic woman" of sorts, a woman of gypsy blood who apparently had "skills" in the area of matchmaking and love. She handed over five thousand hard-earned simoleons and asked to meet her perfect match. The old woman peered into her crystal ball and cackled through missing teeth. "I sense you two will be perfect for one another!" she cried. Tara hoped so. She wanted to see if there was feeling in her beyond this boredom and blandness she felt with Aki.

What she DIDN'T want to see was Aki's car pulling up to the front of the house. He'd arrived home early! And here she was, obviously entertaining a male suitor right on their front lawn. She was mortified for him and for herself, that she'd been so careless in her upset state. Aki strode across the lawn and slapped her hard against the face. "I knew it!" he shouted. "I knew there must have been someone else!" She tried to explain that there hadn't been...at least not until about an hour ago, but Aki was furious and inconsolable. It turned out to be the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back.

Aki, so furious at Tara's betrayal, decided that two could play at this game, and he immediately employed the gypsy woman to bring HIM a new lover as well. She did as she was told, and a woman appeared seemingly out of nowhere. In the meantime, Tara tried to explain to her potential soul mate and beg him politely to leave.

Unfortunately and sadly for both Tara and Aki, both of their dates ended up disasters. Tara's date was furious that she had made him an accomplice in her cheating. And Aki's date was already a taken woman! The two matches waited in the shop while listening uncomfortably to Tara and Aki arguing outside on the driveway. What an uncomfortable mess.

That very night, Tara sat down at the computer and found herself a new place to live. Aki was going to kick her out anyway, she knew, so she may as well go ahead and preempt him. When she walked, empty-armed, out of the house, they didn't even say anything to one another. They were both too angry and too hurt and too...confused...by what had happened. It was heart-breaking, but Tara climbed into the cab and watched her former life and former love disappear out the back window. Thus began her new life.

With her new life, Tara desired a new career. She'd achieved her goal of becoming the education minister of Rosebud, and now she was in a new house, with a freshly broken heart and a desire to have something new to distract her. She decided that distraction would be a change of career. No more smelly school hallways for her. She was trading them for smelly hospital hallways.

Of course, even though her new life was a new start, it didn't mean her old life didn't insert itself once in a while. Aki was still around...he still lived in Rosebud, and she hoped the town was big enough for the two of them. It was hard to be hopeful when he was so furious that he came all the way across town just to kick over her trashcan, though.

Tara had a lot of time to think now in her peaceful mediterranean home. It was quiet and solitary, and she liked it that way, though she had to admit she missed having another person around. And she missed Aki, in a strange way. She missed the Aki and Tara they used to be. Her thoughts were always roiling around in her head, whether she was tinkering on her bench or cooking spaghetti for one.

She built herself a SentyBot to protect against the roach-causing trash can accidents, though she couldn't really blame Aki for being furious. She'd overstepped a line, even if she'd done it with subconscious purpose. Perhaps it had been her cry for help, her way of getting out.

She watched the next night as Aki came to kick over her trash in his usual rage, and it gave her no satisfaction to see him get zapped mercilessly by the SentryBot. She was glad to see him run away and hoped it would keep him away, but she didn't wish him any more harm than she'd already caused him. Life was so complicated.

Being the handy girl she was, she built herself a CleanBot as well, so that the SentryBot could discourage Aki's nightly visits and the CleanBot could clean up after them. She sighed at having to do all this to protect her house against the man she used to love.

Her love of Aki had transformed into love of her house. It was gorgeous. She was so delighted that she'd found this gem in Rosebud, and the pool allowed her the relaxation of cool water, the peacefulness of a mediterranean grotto.

In fact, she decided to stop moping around and do something fun: have a party. She loved all of her friends and family, after all, so why not? It might be just the ticket to feeling better. She called up everyone she could think of that might have a day free and invited them over for a pool party by the barbeque. [[Pictured L to R: Catalina Villalobos, Meadow Beaumont, some dude Tara met somewhere who looks like a landlord, Neal Cleary, Tessa Cleary.]]

Everyone ended up having a great time, thanks to the little stereo Tara had had installed so smustling was ALWAYS an option. She even cooked ribs on the grill for everyone, which was a treat no one expected. The smell of chlorine and barbeque were in the air, and everyone had an amazing time, even despite the party crasher. [[Note Aki on the right side, lol. Also pictured: Dorotea Villalobos, Nerissa Villalobos, some dude in the pool.]]

When the festivities were over, Tara settled herself in her new living room with a book, reading about couples counseling. She didn't want to reunite with Aki, but she hoped that maybe someday they would be able to be friends again. That was when she heard all the racket.

When she climbed down the spiral staircase to her grotto, she found that her CleanBot was on the fritz and spraying trash and garbage all over her lawn. How had the CleanBot even HELD all of this trash? she wondered. As she approached the flailing robot with the remote control, Tara said only two words in a sigh, "Why me?"

She fixed up the CleanBot and went to bed, exhausted from her day of entertaining and internal drama.

The next morning, she slipped into her swimsuit for a quick refreshing swim. She just hoped that life would even out to a comfortable place soon; everyone deserved a happy life, she thought. Even Aki. Even her.

[[Author's Notes: Whew, I finally got these two apart. They were awful together, and I'm sad that it didn't work out, but this is much better. Tara seems a million times happier, even if she IS all sad and lonely because of the breakup. Next up is Aki in his new house, and he seems happier as well. I'm pleased with my decision to do this; these two can find true love with someone, I know, even if it isn't with each other. :)

Blooper:
Tara's gypsy match rolled up this want while they were on their date. Never seen it before, but it must have been a pretty bad date if he was contemplating robotics during it. ]]
