The Villaloboses (B) - Round 13

Last round at the Villalobos house, Amber and Diego were helplessly boring without Marquez around to keep the house lively. Amber tried desperately to earn the wishing well but fell short. Diego joined her in her nature hobby interest, and the two spent a lot of time weeding and fishing. Not much more is in store this round, but let's check in with them anyway, shall we?

Diego and Amber got used to not having a child in the house. Marquez had moved into his own home with his wife Imelda, and that meant his parents had the luxury of truly enjoying the home they'd made for themselves without having to feel like the doddering old grandparents. Diego didn't mourn his elderhood but rather celebrated it. Just because his hair was gray didn't mean he and his friends couldn't whip a bowling ball down the lane in the basement for a satisfying strike.




Amber, too, was spared the dreaded "grandma syndrome," of becoming a live-in grandparent. She could still haul huge fish out of their backyard pond and get on her hands and knees to tend her beloved plants. She and Diego were definitely enjoying the retired life.





Despite Amber's spry knees, however, she still struggled to get the coveted wishing well from the gardening club. They'd even begun to give her money for what a great job she was doing, but the wishing well was still elusive. She was heartbroken to lose her last chance before the growing season ended that year.







Their home was beautifully adorned with decorative plants, not to mention the ones that produced food, and she still couldn't earn her well. It was depressing, but maybe next year...




Diego began to settle into a late-fall routine....finding ways to entertain himself indoors in preparation for the coming winter, when he and Amber's nature interests would curtail themselves.






Of course, life wasn't just what the couple made of it...it was also what happened to them. Their lawn gnome, in particular, kept things interesting that fall with a constant disappearing act.





Amber had to laugh at her husband's seeming delight at their continually disappearing lawn gnome. It made him act like a kid again.




But she had to admit, it was refreshing to see him having so much fun - and good, clean fun. Plus, he always managed to get their gnome back.




Their life was simple and happy. They had everything they needed in the house, from entertaining ways to sustain themselves to other entertainment like friends and each other.





And their friends definitely didn't mind coming over to enjoy the place either.




[[Author's Notes: This house is fairly interesting with Amber's goal of getting the wishing well...I like the nature hobby a lot. But with winter being the next season, I'm afraid they'll be terribly boring. Guess we'll find out. No bloopers for you. ]]

The Villaloboses (B) - Round 12

Last round at the Villalobos house, Amber and Diego had to get used to the idea that their son Marquez would not be moving back into their home, and they did so by continuing to keep good contact with him. Diego decided that he wanted to build a bowling alley/party space in the basement to entertain guests. He and Amber both transitioned well into elder-hood. This round: Amber tries desperately to get a wishing well and Diego pretty much supports her in her efforts. Let's check in.

Every night when Diego came home from work, he brought with him Connor Villalobos, his sisters husband and his own brother-in-law. Connor was pretty good at bowling, but Diego was determined to beat him one of these days.




In addition to working and trying to up his bowling average, Diego decided to help his wife achieve one of her biggest goals: to not only be a member of the garden club, but to be a prestigious one who had earned the very rare wishing well gift they gave to their premier members. He was working so hard to help her that he ended up gaining gardening knowledge he had never sought in the first place!






Amber kept trying her luck with the garden club throughout the summer season, inviting them over often. She always received many compliments, but she seemed to always fall short of actually achieving her goal of earning a wishing well.





She was primarily a food-gardener, and when the garden club left their comments for her, it occurred to her that she may have to branch out into flower gardening in order to truly impress them. It wasn't something she had an interest in, but if it earned her a wishing well, she would do it, and well.




In the meantime, between their jobs and tending Amber's garden, she and her hubby spent a lot of time fishing in the small pond at the back of the lot. It was relaxing, and it allowed them to catch up on the latest news they had to share with one another.




She talked him into going fishing with her so much that Diego soon could be found by the pond all by himself, catching the freshest food of the day and starting to become a real fishing afficionado.




He was also starting to become a better gardener. Though Amber knew his true passion wasn't plants and flowers and fish, the dedication Diego showed to helping her toward her cause made her heart swell to know that this was her husband. They'd always been a good team, and they always would be.



[[Author's Notes: Not much to say here. Never had a sim get a wishing well before, and it seemed like a fun goal to try with Amber and Diego. They're boring elders, but a nature hobby always keeps me more interested than most. Next round, they're going to try to get that darned garden club reward before winter sets in. No clue how that goal will work out. Only one blooper!

The Villaloboses (B) - Round 11

Last time at the Villalobos household, Amber and Diego enjoyed having the house to themselves, knowing that Marquez was starting a family of his own and not returning to the home in which he'd grown up. Amber declared a secondary aspiration of knowledge, and Diego painted both of their portraits. Amber kept up with her nature hobby, and Diego pottered around the house when he wasn't at work.

As soon as the first days of spring had sprung, Amber was outside and tending to her fruit trees. They had been dormant all winter, but she knew that she had to get them going again with a bang. Extra attention at the beginning of the growing season would lead to good results when it came time to harvest.




She and Diego had settled into a very comfortable life of two. Sure, they missed Marquez, and sure the house was too big for only the two of them, but they had a gorgeous place to live and were still as in love as they'd been in college. It was a good life.



They had fresh food all the time from Amber's garden and from the pond, in which they both enjoyed fishing.



And it wasn't like they never saw Marquez either. After all, he only lived just down the street, and he would come and visit and occasionally have dinner with his parents. Imelda was a good cook, but he missed his mother's fresh garden meals...though he'd never tell Imelda that.





Amber continued her bug collecting, though it sometimes drove her crazy when she couldn't catch the more elusive species she needed to complete her collection.



One day, Diego got a wild hair and decided that they were old enough, had worked hard enough, and deserved to have a little play time. To go with that play time, he decided they needed a play area. Digging down and excavating the basement, he hired contractors to finish it off in lovely hard wood and wallpaper, and he and Amber filled it with music, games, comfortable seating, and the best part...




Their own in-home bowling alley. They both agreed they wanted to throw lots of parties to have their friends over and enjoy the new rumpus room. There was one thing they had to do first, though.




Both Amber and Diego decided to have their birthday party together, celebrating in one evening, even though they were a month or two apart in actual birthdays.




They suddenly felt the aches and pains of their years, and their hair lost some of its natural lustrous hue, but they were still happy and still had a beautiful house and family.



As long as they had one another, everything was okay.



[[Author's Notes: These guys are pretty fun, still, even though it's just the two of them and they're now elders. Diego had the want to buy a game costing more than some ridiculous amount of money, and the only options were roller rink, ice rink, or bowling alley. The only thing they had room for was the bowling alley, so I got to have a little fun making them a finished basement and party room. I'm not sure who is going to inherit this house when they die, but whoever it is will be freakin' lucky. This is one of my favorite lots in the game, especially now with the basement. Marquez stopped by autonomously, which I thought was nice since I never remember to invite family members over. Only one blooper for you.

Blooper:
Apparently, senility is settling into Diego a little early. In case you can't see, his wishes include "quit job" (he's a fortune sim) and "buy a curtain." Really? Buy a curtain? O.o ]]

The Villaloboses (B) - Round 10

Last time at the Villalobos house, Diego and Amber had to get used to Marquez being away from home at university. Diego achieved his second and third LTWs of becoming a space pirate and a prestidigitator, consecutively. Amber joined the garden club and achieved her LTW of becoming a rock god. They also got blessed with a genie lamp and both got a little bit of an age reprieve. Let's see how they do this round.

Amber decided that since she'd finally become the rock goddess she always knew she could be, she would give the law enforcement career path a try. Maybe she could become Rosebud's next superhero, who knew?



Early in the season, they had a bit of a mishap, though. A silly burglar who didn't case the house enough to realize they had installed a burglar alarm broke into their house one night while they were sleeping.





It took him a surprisingly long time to realize that the loud bleating sound he heard precisely upon entering the home was actually a burglar alarm.




The police officer appearing just in time to catch him red-handed stealing the television finally drove the point home.




Fortunately, the burglar hadn't been doing his daily workouts, and the police officer prevailed, leading the villain handcuffed into the police car. This display only made Amber realize more strongly how much she wanted to be among the ranks of these great protectors of their tiny town. She couldn't wait to get a job with the police force.



She figured if she were going to really excel, she would need to study up on various criminal law and police procedure and hurled herself wholeheartedly into her new pursuit.




In the meantime, Diego was perfectly content to dive into his hobby of painting. He even decided that he would immortalize his beautiful wife in a portrait.




At Amber's encouragement, he even painted his own portrait. Amber commented convincingly that now Marquez could inherit the paintings, and maybe it would start a family tradition of a portrait gallery.




Until the time came to pass the paintings on, though, they occupied the bedroom wall of Diego and Amber, and they each slept on the opposite side of where their portrait hung, close to both their living and immortalized mate.




The house sat under a thick layer of winter snow and hibernated the rest of the season, the contented couple deep inside, warm and toasty, hanging tight until spring came to melt away the ice.


[[Author's Notes: These guys aren't really boring because they have so many hobbies. Diego still uses the ballet barre all the time and paints and fishes, and Amber works her garden, cooks, and fishes. They're pretty entertaining in their hobbies, and they're very sweet. Diego will eventually inherit this house, and he and Imelda will probably move in when Amber and Diego pass away, but maybe not too. It depends on how old Imelda and Marquez are when Amber and Diego finally go. It might end up passing on to grandchildren. Two bloopers for you.

It's PRESTIDIGITATOR FEVER. Diego is apparently kind of a career snob. ]]
